From the banks of the Spree you have a great view of the characteristic House of World Cultures or the Congress Hall. International contemporary exhibitions take place here regularly. Due to its unique architecture, the building is known as the “Pregnant Oyster”, especially among Berliners.

Many Berliners and non-Berliners have experienced a lot with and in the congress hall over the past five decades. You have attended concerts, exhibitions or lectures, celebrated birthdays and took off on the steamer. Some have seen Kennedy in front of "the hall" or can remember the bang that resounded from far away when the roof collapsed.
