The fortress on the striking mountain Asperg can be seen from afar. It has been used as a prison since the beginning of the 18th century. Since 1968, it houses the prison hospital of the Baden-Wuerttemberg judiciary.
A museum gives insights into the lives of 23 inmates from three
Centuries and shows why they were imprisoned. The House of History Baden-Württemberg has set up the impressive exhibition at this historic location. The museum is open from April to October, from Thursday to Sunday. For the entrance you pay four euros. Further information about the museum can be found here: hdgbw.de/ausstellungen/hohenasperg.

The fortress Hohenasperg was from 1535 to 1693 an active fortress of the country Württemberg on the Asperg (also called Hohenasperg) with the city Asperg in the today's district Ludwigsburg (Baden-Wuerttemberg). It served as a prison since the beginning of the 18th century, in which many prominent political prisoners were imprisoned until 1945. Since 1968 it is enforcement hospital of the Baden-Wuerttemberg judiciary.
