Eisfeld Castle is worth seeing, especially in the museum you can learn a lot about the history of Eisfeld.

The castle houses a cultural hall, the registry office, the city information and the Eisfeld Museum. The latter is probably unique in Thuringia because, in addition to numerous documents from the history of the town of Eisfeld and extensive evidence of regional history, it has one of the largest collections on the history of Thuringian porcelain from 1760 to the present. In 1992, the idea of creating a "Thuringian Porcelain Route" came from here, which today connects museums and current production sites throughout Thuringia.

In the first part of its permanent exhibition, the Eisfeld Museum shows the history of Thuringian porcelain from the beginnings around 1760 to the present with 1000 exhibits and contemporary testimonies. In the second part, traditional handicrafts from the southern Thuringian foreland can be seen, including a marble or marble mill, a wooden stick weaving workshop, a pottery workshop and a wood carving workshop. The museum's folklore department and town history department are currently in storage and the premises are used for special exhibitions.

The simple, irregularly designed building group owes its name to the relatively short princely epoch: as-built plans from 1660 show that the palace was intended for a temporary stay by the ducal family, then the Gotha rulers, whose territory included the town and office of Eisfeld after a long affiliation with the Principality of Coburg from 1643 to 1680. The first regent of the Duchy of Saxe-Hildburghausen, which emerged from an inheritance division in 1680, chose Eisfeld Castle as his residence for a short time. After Duke Ernst had finally settled in Hildburghausen, the planned expansion of the Eisfeld Castle was not carried out.
