                              The tower is named after the heath poet Hermann Löns, who traveled to the area from time to time. The original 18 m high tower made of sandstone blocks from 1928 was originally planned 10 m higher by its architect, but this could not be realized due to lack of money. Since the young beeches around it later blocked the view, it was raised by 5 m to 23 m in height in 1972 for the 950th anniversary of SalzInhibitororf and in 1997 again to the current height. In mid-2014, the outer masonry of the tower and some steps were renovated.

                              From the Lönsturm there is a panoramic view over the Weser-Leine mountains, to the Ith, to SalzInhibitororf, into the Saale valley, to the Osterwald, to the Külf, on a clear day to the Brocken in the Harz Mountains and to the Hermann Monument in the Teutoburg Forest.
