The Little Mermaid brings together the two most famous Danish exports: Hans Christian Andersen and the Carlsberg brewery. The sculpture is based on the fairy tale of the same name by the beloved Danish poet Hans Christian Andersen. However, the erection of the sculpture was prompted by art lover Carl Jacobsen. He hired Danish sculptor Edvard Eriksen to design The Little Mermaid. Cast in bronze, the sculpture, with the head modeled after prima ballerina Ellen Price, was completed in August 1913. Incidentally, the imposing Gefion Fountain, not far from the bronze sculpture, was also commissioned by Carl Jacobsen

What do you do when you come to Copenhagen? You visit the mermaid. You'll be disappointed just as quickly. The figure is relatively small and very well attended. Ultimately, Photoshop needs to help you remove other tourists.

If you come later in the evening it is quite quiet here and you actually have the statue to yourself. Overall, a little more inconspicuous than expected, but the beautiful play of light on the bronze makes up for it.

The Little Mermaid sculpture is made of bronze and granite stone and is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale about the mermaid who sacrifices everything to be united with the young, beautiful prince on land. Every morning and every evening she rises from the seabed and longs for the prince from her rock in the water. The story of the Little Mermaid is known to many children today not only from Hans Christian Andersen's original version, but also from Disney's version of the same name.

One cannot help but think of Copenhagen without the Little Mermaid coming to mind.... she remains there... motionless, with a sad and melancholic expression, aware of her imminent and dramatic end. Or because it remains there alone on that small rock at the mercy of thousands of tourists who immortalize it without shame... including myself!!!
              Magical!

The small bronze figure on Copenhagen's waterfront "Langelinie" is not only the symbol of Copenhagen. It has now become the Danish national symbol. Every day tourist swarms climb around the coveted "model" on shaky stones. In order to spare the visitors the shaking maneuver, the tourism industry would like to give the Nixe a different location. But with that she encounters resistance - no wonder, considering the exciting and sometimes sad story of the little ones

From the boat, as easily accessible from the countryside. Hans Christian Anderson has created himself a memorial here with the story of the little mermaid. Should not be missing on any Copenhagen visit, if not even the head of the figure is missing, because sawn off

This pretty young lady is simply "the" landmark of Copenhagen. And the way there along the water, past Amalienborg Castle is just pure relaxation.
And in the (German) autumn holidays there are not so many tourists on the way ...

Copenhagen's most famous highlight and landmark is "The Little Mermaid."

Langelinje Quay at the entrance to Copenhagen Harbor is home to one of Denmark's
biggest attractions, which, funnily enough, is also one of its smallest:

                                The Little Mermaid.

The Little Mermaid sculpture was erected on August 23, 1913, on Langelinje Quay in Copenhagen as a gift to the city of Copenhagen.

The generous donor was Carl Jacobsen, the son of J.C. Jacobsen,

founder of another Copenhagen global brand, the Carlsberg Brewery.

The Little Mermaid sculpture is made of bronze and granite stone and is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale about the mermaid who sacrifices everything to be reunited with the young, handsome prince on land. Every morning and every evening, she rises from the seabed and longs for the prince from her rock in the water.
The story of the Little Mermaid is familiar to many children today, not only from Hans Christian Andersen's original version, but also from Disney's version of the same name.
