The Litberg (Gauss Tower)
The Litberg in Sauensiek is 65 m above sea level the highest elevation in the district of Stade. From the summer of 1821, Gauss had commissioned the surveying of his kingdom on behalf of the Hanoverian king George IV. The Litberg played a very important role. On September 27, 1824, Gauss was delighted: "Many houses of Altona can be seen on the Litberg." The Zeven church tower was also visible from the Litberg, and the Zevener tower in good weather, if not the smoke of peat bogs darkened the sky, a line of sight to Bremen.The net was knotted, the work accomplished.

Carl Friedrich Gauss
Gauss was born in Braunschweig in 1777 and promoted early on by the Duke of Brunswick, who recognized his extraordinary talent. Gauss studied at the University of Göttingen and was known throughout the world for his many fundamental works in the fields of mathematics, physics, astronomy and geodesy and received the honorary title Prinzeps Mathematica, prince of mathematicians. According to him, more than 50 laws and equations, formulas and procedures have been named - including the Gaussian normal distribution curve (shown on the dummy front), which is the basis of all statistical calculations. In his late years Gauss dealt with geophysics and geodesy. Gauss was director of the Göttingen Observatory from 1807 until his death in 1855.

Mandatory visit for "mathematicians" :-).
Nice bike paths all around to get to this highlight. But the direct access to the tower is not necessarily suitable for racing bikes, but about 300 m forest path. You have to go through there if you want to enjoy the view.
