The core of today's Prince's House was built around 1750 according to plans by court architect Johann Gottfried Rosenberg as a private garden palace for the Duke of Plön, Friedrich Carl.

After the end of the Plön ducal period, the family of the royal Danish forestry official Andreas Gottlieb von Rosen moved into the house in 1782 and made it the social center of the town for almost 100 years.

Around 1900, the Rococo palace, which had been specially expanded to include two neo-Baroque side wings, served as a prince's school for the six sons of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Over the course of the 20th century, the Prince's House belonged to various educational institutions, most recently as the girls' dormitory of the Plön Castle State Boarding School. Since 2000, the German Foundation for Monument Protection has owned the Prince's House and the palace gardens.

Parallel to the castle park behind the Prinzenhaus leads along this beautiful Lindenallee, closely planted, well grown and styled. It is easy to imagine how his majesty strolled along with his advisors.

The Prince's House, also called the Pearl of Rococo, is one of the most important Rococo buildings in Northern Germany.

In the palace's baroque garden, which was laid out between 1730 and 1748, a pavilion was built in 1744 and served as a private garden palace for Duke Friedrich Carl.

This was where the ducal couple withdrew from their prestigious court.

From 1895 onwards, the Rococo palace served as a residence and training facility (Prince's School) for the six sons of Kaiser Wilhelm II. For this purpose, two side wings were added and the Marble Hall was converted into a training room.

Over the course of the 20th century, the Prince's House belonged to various educational institutions, most recently it was the girls' home of the Plön Castle State Boarding School.

Today, the Prince's House is owned by the German Foundation for Monument Protection.

It is suitable for concerts, conferences, lectures, receptions, weddings, and much more.

Guided tours for history buffs are available upon request.

The Prince's House was built in 1744 as a pleasure palace and private residence for the Duke and bordered the Baroque garden. The Prince's House received its current name and appearance in 1895. Emperor Wilhelm II chose Plön Castle as the place where his six sons were educated and trained. At this cadet school, his six sons lived in the Prince's House, which was specially expanded with two annexes.

The Prince's House can be visited on a guided tour, which takes place every Sunday at 3 p.m. The tour begins at the south side entrance. Otherwise, the building can only be viewed from the outside. An information panel provides detailed information about its history.

Since it was built in 1730 to 1748, it has had an eventful history with many "ups" and "downs". However, the two linden tree avenues that bordered it remained standing and have been preserved to this day. They provide shelter for numerous bats. Tip: They are out and about in large numbers at dusk and on a bat safari with the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park they can even be heard using an ultrasound device. An impressive spectacle for children, adults and individual guests. Important information can be found at naturpark-holsteinische-schweiz.de/event/fledermaus-safari-durch-das-ploener-schlossgebiet-1 But even without bats you can relax here and enjoy the atmosphere.
