The half-timbered house at Strukturstraße 7 was built in 1577 by Henricus Elvers, notary and vicar, at St. Andreas Church. It is one of the most magnificent medieval examples of a 16th-century Low German hall house in the northern Weser region.

Although the size and design of the interior make it more likely that it was a bourgeois house, the elaborately carved exterior, based on original designs by contemporary artists, is modeled on the aristocratic buildings of the period. The house has undergone surprisingly little change over several centuries. It is a unique document of the city's construction activity during the transition from the Middle Ages to the modern era. The house is popularly known as the "Ackerbürgerhaus" (Agricultural House), even though it was probably never used as such.

"Hinricus Elves me ftc" (i.e., "Hinricus Elves made me") begins the clearly legible inscription on the lower beam. The upper thresholds are decorated with flat-cut tendrils and foliage. In contrast, the plank infills below the window feature rosettes and star patterns.

Duchess Charlotte Sophia of Courland (1651–1728), Imperial Abbess of Herford Abbey since 1688, spent her exile (due to family inheritance disputes) in the house from 1703 until her death.

The building was purchased by the city in 1971 and extensively renovated between 2004 and 2007.
