    Beautiful memorial in granite for 'De Redders' van Schouwen-Duiveland - 1953.
    The granite monument is a silhouette of a man with a sou'wester.

    Historical interpretation: Since 1862, a lifeboat has been stationed in Burghsluis by the Royal South Holland Shipwreck Rescue Company (K.Z.H.M.R.S.) in Rotterdam. Often at great risk to their own lives, the skippers and crew members have carried out countless rescues. Many seafarers owe their lives to the courage and perseverance of the rescuers.
    On the so-called bolt (remainder of a fallen dike) is a monument in memory of the rescuers of Schouwen-Duiveland. It stands on the spot where the lifeboat left. The monument was designed by Mrs. Miems van Citters from Burgh.
