The Stormvloedkering is a central structure of the Dutch Delta Works that protects the Eastern Scheldt estuary from storm surges. This movable storm surge barrier stretches over 9 kilometers and consists of 62 massive sliding gates that are closed during storms and high water levels to protect the hinterland from flooding.
