The intersection of an old military road from the Baltic Sea to Italy with the so-called Deitweg, which forms part of the Aachen-Magdeburg connecting route, i.e., from the Rhine to the Elbe. The natural border, the Oker River (Ovaccra), narrows at this point and divides into two branches by a gravel bank, thus forming a ford accessible to all.

At this important site, in the spring of 747, the two feuding half-brothers Pippin and Gripho, sons of Charles Martel, met to settle their inheritance disputes in battle. After long negotiations, they concluded a brotherly peace in the middle of the Oker, thus instilling peaceful ideas into Ohrum's historical development.
