      The Alpsee (approx. 62m deep) near Hohenschwangau impresses with its blue, clear water. In addition to an outdoor swimming pool and the local boat rental, the lake offers an easy alpine circular hiking trail with a length of approx. 6km! The hiking trail is “not suitable for wheelchair users, strollers or bicycles”! Listen again and again over coarse stones, large roots and small bridges with a grid floor, up and down the mountain! The view is breathtaking and you can catch a glimpse of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwanstein here and there!

                        Schwanstein Castle, first mentioned in the 12th century, was the seat of the noble family of Schwangau. King Maximilian II of Bavaria acquired the ruined castle in 1832 and had it expanded into a neo-Gothic palace. King Ludwig II also spent his childhood here. But mainly the palace served as a summer residence for the royal family. Hohenschwangau Castle is located below the fairytale Neuschwanstein Castle.

                                      One of the best views of Hohenschwangau but also definitely one of the busiest. You'll meet lots of tourists and will contend with many passing tourbuses in the busier season. However, its still a very good spot for a decent photo opportunity.
