The evergreen Ilex-Kammweg with high beech stands is one of my all-time favorite paths. However, the storms of recent years have torn painful gaps in the beech forest.
May 2021: When I walked this ridge trail for the first time in 2013/14, I was almost thrilled by the beautiful, tall, dense beech forest.
In the meantime this forest is reminiscent of a theater of war in nature in some places; want to say how bombed are the tree ruins and the stumps on the slope.
Thinned out of the forest, the remaining beech trees, abandoned by the group of trees, which still defy the adversity, stand here and there with badly torn, sun-torn bark under sad residual crowns.
The beech will probably leave its traditional place in our regions and have to settle further north.
In ten years we will be walking here, if we should, through young birch forest.
