It is a body of water in the province of Treviso.
It is located in the Lapisina valley, the valley that begins north of Vittorio Veneto and is inserted between the Belluno Prealps culminating in the Fadalto saddle, from which you can reach Alpago and Valbelluna. It is located at 276 m above sea level. and reaches 56 m deep.
The lake is so called because it has neither tributaries nor emissaries, being probably fed by underground karst basins. Like the nearby lake of Santa Croce, located in the Belluno area, it represents an intravalley lake, formed through an alluvial, moraine and landslide barrier.
Together with the two lakes of Revine Lago, it is one of the largest in the province.
On its northern banks stands the town of Fadalto Basso, while to the south is Nove, both hamlets of Vittorio Veneto.
Lake Morto powers the hydroelectric power plants of Nove.
The lake is not suitable for swimming due to the very cold water, the deep seabed and the presence of some eddies formed by the current. It is home to various fish species: chub, bleak, whitefish, brown and rainbow trout (released for fishing purposes; Lake Morto is in fact a fishing reserve), pike, tench and carp.
