Svanemøllen in Kerteminde sits beautifully on the Møllebakken (mill hill) on the northern outskirts of the city and serves as a landmark and symbol of the city.
It takes its name from the weather vane, a beautiful swan, that adorns the top of the mill. The mill body is octagonal.
The lower mill is built of brick and has a passage for wagons.
The upper mill is built of wood and covered with wood shavings.
The mill has a stern for sails and manual yawing.
The Swan Mill in Kerteminde is now part of the Johannes Larsen Museum.
The mill is functional and operates a few times a year.
Many of the mill's furnishings have been preserved, including grain, flour, and skew mills.
In 1984, Kerteminde Museum took over management of the mill and carried out a complete restoration. Since then, the mill has been continuously maintained.
