    The Mutter-Anna-Kirche is a Catholic church in the district town of Neustadt an der Waldnaab, in the Mühlberg district. The church belongs to the Catholic parish of the Holy Family in Altenstadt an der Waldnaab in the diocese of Regensburg.

    In 1380 the chapel of St. Nicholas was built in place of an old cult site originally there. The chapel of St. Nicholas was equipped with bells, two of which have survived from the 14th and 15th centuries. In 1521 the chapel was enlarged and given the name St. Anna. In the years around 1770 the church was further enlarged and took on its current shape. In 1776 it received a high altar.

      Saint Anne is the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary - not attested in the biblical texts - but she is mentioned in apocryphal writings (i.e. not included in the canon of the Bible), for example in the so-called "Proto-Gospel of James". There is no historically reliable knowledge about Anna's life, but there are numerous traditional stories that are summarized, for example, in the medieval "Legenda Aurea" by the Dominican monk Jacobus de Voragine.
