Royal Tunbridge Wells became a popular town during the 1700s when wealthy Londoners would visit the spa in the town. The town was run by Beau Nash at the time, a famous fashionista who directed the construction of the Pantiles, a Georgian shopping collonade which is still popular today. Royal Tunbridge Wells remains very popular with tourists who come to visit a historical town a stone's throw from London. The town has heaps of good restaurants, museums and art galleries.

Turnbridge Wells, officially known as Royal Tunbridge Wells since 1909, is a town in the far west of County Kent near the Sussex border in southeast England in the United Kingdom. Tunbridge Wells is also the administrative center of the Borough of Tunbridge Wells.

Tunbridge Wells is also a spa town that owes its origins to the discovery of iron sources in the early 17th century. The expansion of the place around the supposedly curative spring in the era of restoration, as it increasingly believed in the medicinal effectiveness of the mineral springs, made Tunbridge Wells a center of attraction for the fine company from the nearby capital of London.

The period of splendor as a spa town experienced the city in the middle of the 18th century. In 1909 King Edward VII granted the city the title "Royal". The city has about 45,000 inhabitants and is the center of Tunbridge Wells Borough. The entire borough has about 100,000 inhabitants.

Since 1989 Tunbridge Wells is twinned with Wiesbaden.
