Leão de Flensburg

The impressive lion monument was originally created in 1862 by Danish sculptor Herman Wilhelm Bissen to commemorate the victory of Danish troops over Schleswig-Holstein. The monument on the shore of Wannsee is a zinc cast of the original in Flensburg.

The Flensburg lion is a zinc copy, which was made in 1862 when the Wannsee villa colony Alsen was built.

In 1938, the lion was moved to its present location on the Heckeshorn.

In 2005 he was extensively restored. For this, the lion was taken from the pedestal and replaced in his absence - and to the delight of the children - by a figure of "Bugs Bunny".

The original "Idstedt Lion" was erected in 1862 in the old cemetery of the city Flensburg and spent in 1864 on instructions Bismarck to Berlin, where he was in Lichterfelde in the courtyard of the Kadettenanstaltstand. From 1945 it was then in Copenhagen and only returned to its original location in Flensburg in 2011:
