Museum Prinsenhof Delft is more than a building with a museum function: the building itself is history. It is a monument of national significance. One of the most dramatic events in Dutch history took place in the Prinsenhof in Delft: the murder of William of Orange in 1584. The bullet holes are still there as silent witnesses in the wall.

The construction and settlement history of the Prinsenhof dates back to the early 1400s. On April 30, 1403, a number of buildings in Delft were given the status of nunneries. The monastery was named after Agatha, daughter of Alijd Buser, the first mater. St. Agatha was also the patroness of the weaving technique. Spinning and weaving therefore also became one of the monastery's sources of income.
