Not far from the Ulm Minster is the Ulm Town Hall, which immediately captures the eye with its opulent exterior frescoes from the early Renaissance.
The oldest part of today's Ulm town hall, the southeast main building, originated in the year 1370. The richly decorated astronomical clock was attached around 1520 at the Ulmer city hall. The magnificent façade painting was also extended to the old building and displays representations of virtues, commandments and vices. The painting that can be seen today dates back to 1900, when the painting, largely destroyed by the weather, was restored.
The interior of the Ulm town hall was heavily damaged in 1944 by a fire. However, the entire ground floor and the first floor remained undamaged.
