Ümminger See (Bochum)

On the trail of mining

The Ümminger See in Bochum is one of the gems in the area and is suitable both for walks and as an intermediate destination for hikes or excursions with MTB or trekking bike.

At the last stage of the Harpener Bach, before it flows into the Langendreerbach, is the Ümminger See. It is a popular excursion destination and in the middle of the Ruhr area, the original mining pond offers numerous local recreation opportunities.

Walkers, hikers, cyclists and joggers will find an extensive network of paths around the lake - which is not even much larger than the Harpener Teiche, but because of its geometry is more visible from the shore edges - with numerous seating areas and various leisure activities. A playground, a roller skating rink, a model boat jetty for electric RC boats, a half pipe, sports equipment and sunbathing areas offer opportunities for different tastes, from sporting activities and family leisure to just lounging around. Inline skaters don't have ideal conditions here because of the rough but easily accessible paths.

What is there? The lake has its own parking lot with a bicycle road in front of it! There is a path around the lake that cyclists and walkers share! There are lots of things to do along the way for leisure activities! A great playground for the little ones, three table tennis tables, a beach volleyball court, a half pipe, a small roller skating rink, barbecue areas, lots of benches and shelters and the event location Villa Schwanensee with festival barn and beer garden (formerly Suntums Hof)! A visit is definitely worth it! It doesn't matter whether you're just going for a walk here or taking a bike tour to the lake!
