    "The Volkspark Langendreer is a public park in the district of Langendreer in the east of Bochum.
    The concept of the park with a lawn, trees and bushes corresponds to a public park or public garden from the last century. It was created in the early 1960s based on a design by the city garden director Helmuth Rockholtz (1923-2017) on the site of two former brickworks. In terms of tradition, it is one of the comparable public gardens in the central Ruhr area such as the public garden in Lütgendortmund and the Rombergpark in Dortmund, as well as the public garden in Kray and the Grugapark in Essen. The Volkspark was and is used by the employees of the formerly nearby Opel works for recreation. The size of the park is 9.4 hectares. The tree stock includes 80 varieties of different deciduous and coniferous trees. The renewal of the park by the city of Bochum was completed in July 2021. The green character of the park, designed in the style of an English landscape garden, was retained. The playground has been enlarged and restructured. This now has play areas for sliding, swinging, balancing and climbing as well as large sand play areas with seating areas. Retreat areas are located in the newly designed rose garden and in the pergola garden. Washed concrete was used for the fountain basin. There is a boules pitch and numerous patches of edible vegetables tended by an urban gardening group. All paths in the park have been redesigned. The renovated footpath now leads directly into the park and connects the center with the oasis at the old train station."
