    history

    The parish of St. Martin in Pfaffenhofen made the following vow with her pastor Martin Humpf in the war year 1944: "If the parish community is spared the war damage, we build a chapel in thanksgiving to the Blessed Mother."     The Marienfried Chapel or Gnadenkapelle ("Thrice Wonderful Mother and Mediatrix of Grace") was consecrated on 18 May 1947 with episcopal approval. On July 4, 1995, the Augsburg Diocesan Bishop Viktor Josef Dammertz named a newly built church the name "Maria, Mother of the Church" and built Marienfried as a church foundation.     In 1974, a Fatima grotto was created in the southwestern corner of the forest.
