The Upper Gate is the landmark of the city of Weißenhorn. The gate has been rebuilt and changed several times in its more than 500-year history:
The upper gate was built in 1470/80. In 1529 the gate was so damaged after the Peasants' Revolt in 1525 that it had to be renovated.
In 1725, the cellar under the Obern Tor was leased annually to star innkeeper Christoph Miller for the storage of brown beer.
In the description of the city's real estate from 1777, only the apartment of the gatekeeper (gatekeeper) is described.
The midwife's apartment in the Upper Gate is attested from 1819; it is assumed that it was in the northern forecourt. In 1819 the midwife was Franziska Bader, in 1843 Johanna Wirth. In 1819, the night watchman Stanislaus Demmel had his apartment in the southern front tower.
