    The location of the former monastery church can be seen in the terraced garden. The current buildings date from the use as a monastery estate from the 16th to 19th centuries. Parts of the monastery wall have been preserved.

      Built in 1241, it served as a Cistercian monastery until the Reformation (Note: These were actually Benedictine nuns who lived according to Cistercian rules after the monastery church burned down in 1278 and was rebuilt. However, they never joined a Cistercian convent). They introduced fruit growing to the region. In 1892, Leipzig city planner Dr. Ludolf Colditz purchased the monastery grounds and continued to pursue fruit growing. In 1946, the Colditz family was expropriated. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, the family reacquired the property and established a foundation. More information can be found at: klostersornzig.de.
