The deserted Osterland Castle in the Oschatz city forest is a castle ruin with Gothic and Romanesque building features that was only used for a very short time and was never completed. The massive remains of the ruins raise more questions than they answer. Even archaeological excavations could not solve the mystery of the property.

It is proven that the castle or the estate was built at the beginning of the 13th century. Radiological measurements revealed that the building was probably built in 1211. But just 90 years later, the imposing building was no longer in use. The big oak tree in front of the ruins wasn't even there then. Otherwise it would be an excellent contemporary witness of the past and could report a lot. So we can only speculate about the fate of the castle.
