The Arkadenspirale is a contribution by Rastede artists to the 950th anniversary in 2009.
2009 was an anniversary year in Rastede. St. Ulrich's Church and the town of Rastede celebrated their 950th anniversary.

It consists of exactly 1000 fired bricks and symbolizes the 950 years of the anniversary as well as 50 more for the time before and for the future. If you look closely you will notice that some of the bricks are highlighted with their year numbers.

Here you can find dates that are of great importance for Rastede, such as the consecration of St. Ulrich's Church in 1059 or the founding of the important Rastede Benedictine monastery in 1091, on the foundations of which the palace of the Grand Dukes stands today, or the railway connection in 1867, which after all of Oldenburg and thus also to Rastede brought the new era.
The spiral shape of the artwork symbolizes the progressive entanglement between the past and the present.
