The Bismarck Tower on the Taufstein marks the highest point in the Vogelsberg Nature Park. The 28-meter-high observation tower was built between 1906 and 1910, and 101 steps inside lead to the top. On a clear day, the Bismarck Tower offers an excellent panoramic view of the neighboring Hoherodskopf and the surrounding low mountain ranges.
Unfortunately, the Bismarck Tower on the Taufstein, constructed of blue basalt, suffers from severe structural damage. A safe visit to the tower is therefore no longer guaranteed. The immediate area around the tower on the small plateau of the Vogelsberg's highest elevation has been fenced off for some time.
The climb to this impressive structure is nevertheless worthwhile because it is
somewhat a mystical site and, like the other Bismarck Towers in Germany, a historical monument that should be preserved and restored without fail.
Future generations will thank us for it.
