It is a famous monument that does not go unnoticed. The Capitol of Toulouse and its square were built in 1190. The project was launched under the direction of the architect Guillaume Cammas. The keep, in turn, was built in 1525.

The aim was to ensure the protection of the city's archives. This also involved the safe storage of gunpowder. At the time, there were fears that the Spanish would attack and invade Languedoc. In fact, a war was raging between Charles V and Francis I.

Place du Capitole is the central square of the city and serves as a market. There you will find the city theater, the town hall and the best hotels, restaurants and brasseries. Open-air concerts are organized there. You can buy bags, souvenirs and jewelry at the many stalls. From the top floor of the Galleries Lafayette department stores, which you can reach by the public elevator, you have a beautiful view of the red roofs of Toulouse.
