Until 1928 the name was "Algua di Costa Serina" from 1928 it became "Bracca di Costa Serina".
Since 1948 the municipalities of Bracca and Costa Serina have been reconstituted, while the two former municipalities of Frerola and Rigosa remained united under the name of "Municipality of Algua".
Algua includes the hamlets Pagliaro, Frerola, Sambusita and Rigosa.
