    On a well-tended piece of lawn there is a bell on a large boulder, with a bronze plaque underneath. "From 1978 to 1993 this bell reminded us of solidarity and steadfastness in the fight for freedom, God bless and protect Ermershausen," it says.

    Ermershausen, known as the rebel village, resisted incorporation into Maroldsweisach for 15 years.
    From then on, Ermershausen was called "the rebel village". They renamed the town hall square "Police Raid Square" and from then on, the citizens gathered every night on May 19th to commemorate the police operation.
