According to the Dutch language Wikipedia: The Cistern of Grevelingen was built in 1724 and collected rainwater from its own roof, from the church roof and from the roof of the Huxelles and Varennes barracks. The cistern could hold 1,420,000 liters of water, which was initially used as drinking water for the military. Later the city population also benefited from this water supply.
