Place de Quinconces is a large public square in Bordeaux, France. It is known as one of the largest city squares in Europe and has an interesting history. A very large gravel pitch. At one end there is a Ferris wheel (you could also leave it out) At the other end there is an imposing fountain. Must see!! 👌🏽

I feel small but still strong when I get to visit those with monuments that are historically significant and in memory of the builders.
I'm not a fan of antiques but this was an absolute highlight. From Bauhaus to hand-forged handrails or window grilles, everything is a real eye-catcher

The Place des Quinconces is one of the largest squares in Europe with an area of 126,000 m² and was built on the site of the former castle, the Château Trompette, between 1818 and 1828. The late medieval Zwingburg was built after the end of the Hundred Years' War to guarantee royal power in the city and to prevent any uprisings by the population. The cannons were aimed towards the center.
It is rectangular and ends in a semicircle in the west on which the 43 meter high Statue of Liberty Monument aux Girondins (Girondist Monument) stands. On the long sides of the square there are statues of Montesquieu and Montaigne.

The trees planted there in 1818 are arranged in the pattern of many cubes lying next to each other with the number five; This arrangement is called Quinconces in French, which is where the name of the square comes from.
Another name for the Place des Quinconces is Esplanade des Quinconces.
