The ruins of the church, which were built between 1865 and 1867 according to plans by the architect of Leipzig's St. Peter's Church, Constantin Lipsius, rise romantically on the highest point in Wachau. The neo-Gothic building from 1867 is impressive and bears witness to an eventful history. Due to the danger of collapse, the tower was demolished in 1975. All that remains is a covered stump. Over time, the church became a complete ruin. The year 1989 also brought a small turning point for the Wachau church. The building was placed under monument protection. In the spring of 1995, the security work began. The Wachau church ruins were inaugurated with a church service on May 11, 1997. Concerts ranging from classical to pop to jazz serve to preserve the picturesque ruins.
