    I found the castle ruins in Leonrod as one of the most tranquil and meditative places in my Franconian homeland. Precisely because the ruin is not one of the goals of mass tourism, those who are looking for wildly romantic tranquility will find a uniquely beautiful place that can usually be left to its own devices.

                        In Leonrod, a district of the market town of Dietenhofen (district of Ansbach) you can find the ruins of a "Ganerbeburg".
                        "Ganerbeburgen" ("Gan" means "common (sam)" in Old High German), also "commoner") were often created through inheritance divisions, with each branch of the family building its own residential building within a common wall. And it was the same in Leonrod, where several families of the “von Leonrod” family had inheritance rights.
                        The water castle of Leonrod was built in the 13th century and was then one of the few castles that was not destroyed during the Thirty Years' War (1618 - 1648).
                        But soon afterwards, the castle in Leonrod also suffered the fate of destruction. In 1651 the moat of the moated castle was to be cleared of undergrowth by burning. Unfortunately, the wind direction was not taken into account and the castle fell victim to the flames.
                        Since then, no renovation work has been carried out on the castle and it is becoming increasingly dilapidated. There are currently signs everywhere that entry is prohibited due to danger to life. That's why we only took a few photos through the entrance gates.
