Between the Große Steinlanke and Havelchaussee bus stops on line 218, there are about a kilometer of sandy beaches on the Unterhavel, which are mainly frequented by young people with scooters. For whatever reason. But you can also lie in the sun and swim if you don't have a scooter.

The Havelhöhenweg is a hiking trail in Berlin, which leads from the Heerstraße / Stößenseebrücke in the north along the east bank of the Havel to the Wannsee beach in the south. Its length is about 10 kilometers and leads past numerous destinations.

The Lower Havel River stretches out here, revealing a stretch of shore that seems like a forgotten chapter in the city's atlas. Between the Große Steinlanke and the Havelchaussee stretches a strip of sand known only to those who seek it out—or who happen to whizz by on a scooter. And many do.

No one knows exactly why scooter riders love this place. Maybe it's the sound of freedom, or perhaps simply the shade under the trees. But luckily, you're welcome even without a motor. If you prefer a quieter place, walk a few meters further, find a spot in the shade, and gaze out at the sailboats that seem to have been breathed into existence here.

A swim in the river, a towel on the sand, an afternoon without any purpose—sometimes that's all it takes for a little happiness. And if you experience the sunset here, you'll understand why you'd want to stay, even if you don't have a scooter.
