Gungolding - a lovable and livable village in the Altmühltal

The village of Gungolding is 16 km east of the district town of Eichstätt in the heart of the Altmühltal nature park. The Altmühl also gives it its scenic character. In the south it is bordered by a wooded ridge of the Jura, from which the rock reefs Nonnenstein and Hexenfelsen protrude. In the north, hills covered by juniper heather rise, below which the Kernberg reaches a height of 480 m. The village is 376 m above sea level. The Altmühl and the state road from Eichstätt to Kipfenberg divide the place into two parts. The connecting link is the bridge, which was inaugurated on July 25, 1986. The various earlier bridges, first made of wood, then of stone, shared the fate of the entire village, especially in times of war.

The panorama trail from Gunzenhausen to Weltenburg also leads over the juniper heath near Gungolding. Fantastic!
