The Maiensässe represent a cultural landscape special feature. Its origin goes back to the centuries-old history of the three-stage economy in agriculture, a form of transhumance. The self-reliance is that most of the entire farm economy moved to the Maiensäss, while in other Alpine regions, only the Alp / Senn staff spent the season in the highlands.
Until the technical opening up of the maize wetlands, the milk was processed on the spot into butter and cheese, which in many places can still be proved by inventory and occasionally still happens today.
