Built on the remains of Plaue Castle in the 15th century. Expropriated in 1945, until 1946 a rest home for Soviet children and a military hospital. 1946 - 1966 administrative school, then until 1993 institute for language intensive training (including interpreter school of the GDR Foreign Ministry). Owned by the State of Brandenburg since 1993.

The fish cart is only there on weekends. The fish rolls are so delicious and excellent.
A little further in the castle tavern with extended opening hours there are drinks (the Krombacher on tap is great), warm meals and great home-baked cakes.
So a stop is definitely worth it.

Plaue Palace is a Baroque palace complex in the town and district of Plaue, part of Brandenburg an der Havel. It is located on the west bank of the Havel River, directly at its outflow from Lake Plauer. It was built on the remains of Plaue Castle. The Plaue Palace Park, a landscaped garden, extends south of the palace along the shore of Lake Plauer to Wendsee.

A Slavic rampart probably already existed on the site of the castle, but this is only indirectly documented. During excavations, several shards of Slavic origin dating from the 9th to the 12th century were found. The area is also typical for a Slavic rampart (see Parey Castle, Pilatsch (castle rampart), or "Alt Rathenow" Castle rampart), located directly on the banks of the Havel River, about 2 meters above the surrounding level.

Between the 12th and 15th centuries, the strategically important Plaue, located between the Margraviate of Brandenburg and the Archbishopric of Magdeburg, was disputed as a ferry point on a trade route already important in the Middle Ages, today's Federal Highway 1, and the Havel River. The castle secured the border between the territories for a long time. Plaue was first mentioned in 1197 as the name of a family that named itself or was named after the castle. Several members of the family were ministeriales bound to the Archbishop of Magdeburg or the Bishop of Brandenburg. Heinrich de Plawe, mentioned in 1197 and 1198, was obligated to the latter.

Due to the disputes between Brandenburg and Magdeburg, which were repeatedly fought out in war, the late 14th century saw the relatively independent rule of the mortgage holders of Plaue Castle. This initially applied to Lippold von Bredow, governor of the Mittelmark. His daughter Agnes was married to Johann von Quitzow, so the castle passed to him. Johann von Quitzow had achieved a completely independent position in Plaue and, for many years, made Brandenburg and Magdeburg possessions unsafe with his brother Dietrich von Quitzow as a robber baron. In 1414, Margrave Friedrich I, in alliance with the Archbishop of Magdeburg, captured the castle after a siege and expelled the Quitzows from Plaue. In 1421, the disputes between Brandenburg and Magdeburg over Plaue Castle were settled through arbitration and the renunciation of Archbishop Günther II. Archbishop Friedrich III finally renounced the castle in 1449 in the Treaty of Zinna.

In 1459, the Elector's chamberlain, Georg von Waldenfels, received Plaue, initially as collateral, with the stipulation that he would have a bridge built over the Havel, completed in 1463, in place of the ferry connection. In 1469, a hereditary fief was made conditional on the renewal of the castle's fortifications. In the early 16th century, a castle chapel with an altar dedicated to St. Anne was first described. Elector Joachim I took personal possession of Plaue in 1531. In 1544, it was sold to Franz von Dornstätt for 12,000 guilders. As compensation, Matthias von Saldern, husband of Gertrud von Saldern, advanced the Elector 5,000 guilders and in turn received Plaue Castle as collateral, even though it had been pledged to Sabina of Brandenburg-Ansbach, wife of the future Elector Johann Georg, as private property in 1547. In 1560, Elector Joachim II exchanged the pledge with Matthias von Saldern for Plattenburg Castle. Johann Georg sold Plaue Castle in 1577.

The building was first opened to the public in 1989. In 1993, the language institute was closed, and Plaue Castle became the property of the state of Brandenburg.[5] After further sales, during which the comprehensive renovation of the manor house was not carried out, the Dolphin Trust company took over Plaue Castle in 2018 with the plan to convert the site into assisted living for the elderly in the long term and, as the new owner, to continue the gastronomic use until 2021.

Plaue Castle is a three-winged palace complex. The eastern corps de logis stands directly on the Havel River and is two-story high. The central risalit is elevated by a mezzanine. The mansard roof is covered with red plain tiles. Light openings include dormer windows. On the upper floor, there is a balcony facing the main courtyard and the river. A two-part open staircase on the river side has been largely removed. The side wings are one-story high. The southern wing terminates in the former palace chapel, which is also elevated by a mezzanine. The former palace chapel has a mansard roof, while the remaining southern wing has a gable roof with hipped dormers. The northern wing has a half-hipped roof and hipped dormers. The palace facade is plastered gray. Structural elements include cornices, fascias, and stucco keystones. A path separates it from the north wing.

South of the palace is the palace park. It stretches along the northwestern shore of Lake Plau to Lake Wendsee and the Seegarten Bridge. Its expansion is the result of an expansion by Leopold von Görne in 1755 and its transformation into a landscape park under the von Königsmarck family around 1850.[6] The palace park has been open to the public since 1935. The Plau Fontaneweg, the Havel Cycle Path, the Tour Brandenburg, and the 7-Lakes Tour lead through the palace park.[7][8]

The English landscape garden contains the remains of old buildings. The so-called Hunger Tower was a decorative structure with views to the palace and the lake. This was demolished down to its foundations in the 1950s. Also preserved is the base of an urn statue, where the dogs of the Counts of Königsmarck were buried. Since 2012, a bronze sculpture by Theodor Fontane, who made Plaue Palace the subject of his 1889 narrative in the fifth volume of his work, "Five Palaces," "Wanderings through the Mark Brandenburg," has stood on the site of a former horse grave. The sculpture was created by the artist Dirk Harms.

A clay pigeon shooting range is said to be the world's oldest surviving one, having been built around 1900 by the castle's owner, Hans Adolf Erwein Max Graf von Königsmarck. It is decorated with larger-than-life animal figures placed on pedestals, a bear and a markhor (Capra falconeri), mementos of a hunting trip to the Himalayas, and trophies that were subsequently added. The shooting range was restored in 2013, and the badly damaged animal figures were replaced with duplicates.

The castle pond south of the castle has two connections to Lake Plau, crossed by two arched brick bridges built between 1851 and 1880. The wall of the rectory garden is also made of brick. This is the remnant of the former boundary wall and dates from the early phase of the landscape park, around the mid-19th century. The cemetery wall was built at the same time as the rectory garden wall. From the castle park, one reaches the cemetery of the Plaue parish church through the so-called Angel Gate. Through this gate, the patron family of the count had their own access from the castle to the cemetery with its family graves and to the church. The iron Angel Gate is framed by two large angel sculptures on pedestals. The angels were carved from sandstone by A. Möller in 1835 on behalf of the castle's owner, Baroness Charlotte von Lauer-Münchhofen.

A French garden was surrounded by a 2-meter-high wall. Fruit trees were grown in this palace garden, for example. It was destroyed after the palace's expropriation in 1945. Remains of walls have been preserved on the private properties bordering the palace park.
