      A wooden drawbridge over Galgewater in central Leiden.

      The bridge was built in 1983 as a replica bridge from the 17th century that was destroyed on the same site in 1817. The bridge is named after the famous painter Rembrandt van Rijn, who was born and grew up a few meters away.

      Rembrandt's birthplace was demolished in the early 20th century. It is now a small park/square known as the Rembrandtplaats.

                The Rembrandt Bridge is a double wooden drawbridge in the city centre of the Dutch city of Leiden.

                History
                The bridge over the Galgewater was built in 1983 as a replica of a 17th-century bridge that stood on the same spot. This was demolished in 1817. After this, no bridge was located here until 1983.

                Location
                The bridge is named after the painter Rembrandt van Rijn who was born and raised in the Weddesteeg, in the extension of the bridge on the south side. On the north side is the standard mill De Put, a replica of the mill that stood here in Rembrandt's time. Rembrandt's family had a similar mill at the Weddesteeg.
