The Wachtenburg is a ruined castle above Wachenheim an der Weinstrasse. The castle was built in the 12th century and largely destroyed as early as 1470. In the Palatinate War of Succession, French troops blew up the keep at the end of the 17th century, half of which remained.

Today the castle is a popular destination and in June the setting for the Wachenheim Castle and Wine Festival.

The winery Villa Wolf - also called by some J. L. Wolf - owes its name to a country house, which was built in 1843 in the style of an Italian villa for the existing since 1756 winery. Behind this naming is one of the big stars among the German winegrowers: Ernst Loosen from the winery Dr. med. Loosen from Bernkastel. In 1996, he took over the winery, which was losing more and more importance, and thus initiated a change in terms of the quality of the wines and the reputation of the winery. Since then he has focused on the production of dry wines from Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. In an effort to preserve as much as possible the old vines and to let the grapes fully ripen with the resulting low yields, the wines of the Villa Wolf get the necessary concentration and the typical character of the vineyard. Of course, all wines are handpicked selectively - the ripe and healthy grapes are then processed into dry wines, while the noble rots are matured noble noble.

The end result is truly great wines, always concentrated and complex and so fascinating that Ernst Loosen has already received many prizes and has been able to shine his wines for years with the best ratings.
