Marshy terrain with numerous ponds and watercourses are referred to as Dobben. This is a Low German term for the "lowland" or "swamped meadowland". This gave rise to the name of the "Dobbenviertel" in Oldenburg, whose areas were originally used as meadowland.

It was only in the second half of the 19th century that the marshy area could be built on by raising the area with sand. The original Dobben area experienced a significant change as a result of these embankments, during which parts of the former course of the Haaren were also filled in.
The first houses in the Dobbenviertel were built in 1876: Bismarkstrasse was developed in 1877, followed by houses on Moltkestrasse and Roonstrasse, Lindenallee (1879) and Cäcilienstrasse (1880).

The Cäcilienplatz was developed as a connection between the old town and the Dobbenviertel, planted with trees, conifers and shrubs.

Here a bridge leads over the two Dobbenteiche. From the bridge you have a beautiful view of both waters. And although the lakes are in the middle of the city, you will find wonderful nature here.
