From Christmas 1944 to early 1945, Daun was under constant fire. Of course, the surrounding villages were also hit by the bombs, and if you look at Daun and the small villages around you today, you will inevitably come to the conclusion that the old people of the Eifel are far too good-natured to do anything wrong to others . At the end of the Second World War, Daun was almost razed to the ground. Over 80 percent of the houses were bombed. The nearby villages also had the same need and the people from Darscheid, like many people from other villages, sought protection in the depths of the forests.

The emergency cross stands there in the forest as a reminder of the emergency years 1944/45, as a memorial that something like this does not happen again.
