Just like the Daun Maarseen, the Mürmes is of volcanic origin. Here, however, the original maar has silted up and left behind a picturesque flat moor. In the past, peat was cut here on a large scale, but the Mürmes was placed under nature protection in 1975.
Many different birds live on the vast wet meadows. In addition, a visit to the Mürm is particularly interesting for plant lovers: innumerable rare plants and flowers grow on the meadows and along the streams.

The Electors' Maar
Mürmes is located in the nature reserve of the same name and is an oval moor with four meter thick layers of peat. Rare plants with evocative names grow on its surface, such as the narrow-leaved cotton grass, the round-leaved sundew, the hairy water fennel, the ivy-leaved buttercup and the spotted orchid.
