              There is a very beautiful raised bog on the Großer Beerberg just behind the highest point of the Rennsteig with many typical plants from the Thuringian Forest region.

              On the summit region of the Großer Beerberg is one of the few remaining rain bogs (raised bogs) in the Thuringian Forest. It is protected as part of the Vessertal-Thüringer Wald biosphere reserve and designated as the Beerbergmoor nature reserve (Zone I BR Vessertal-Thüringer Wald) (CDDA no. 9357; since 1939; 34.2 ha in size). It is not permitted to enter the highest point of the mountain.
