Remseck - The ravages of time have gnawed clearly at the Neckar lock in Remseck-Aldingen: parts of the bank are under washed, the electrical system and controls are outdated, the dimensions of the system no longer compatible with the size of many ships in European water traffic. Nearly 80 years ago, the elevator was built, the system was last renovated in the 1950s. A repair, so Manuel Neukirchen, is therefore now required. The project manager of the office for Neckarausbau coordinates the work in Aldingen. He plans to move in the next month the excavators. They will probably stay until 2018.
Lock is to lift after expansion and 110-meter ships
During this time, the right-bank, right-sided chamber of the lock is overhauled. In addition, the embankment is redesigned in the area in front of the actual pool. The concrete slabs that have been lying there are being demolished. The new riprap, according to the engineer Neukirchen, is not only more stable, but also ecologically more valuable. At the latest in the summer of next year, he hopes then to start with the actual main work on the other, left chamber. There, workers mill the concrete shell and re-cast it, as well as extending the basin by a few meters. So far, the lock can not lift ships that are 110 meters or longer. These larger freighters are the "usual standards in Europe", as explained by the director of the office for Neckarausbau, Klaus Michels. For the entire project, his authority expects costs of over 12.5 million euros. These are borne by the federal government, the Office for Neckarausbau is a subordinate authority of its water and shipping administration.
The Aldinger lock is one of the first in the district, which is now actually rehabilitated.
