These things were not called a border post, but a border column. They did NOT mark the boundary, there were also low boundary stones.
From Wikipedia:
The columns had a cross-section of 22 cm square and, depending on their location, protruded 180 to 210 cm from the ground. Her weight was about 400 kg. An iron rod 10 to 15 cm long protruded from the top of the column. This was supposed to prevent birds from sitting on the column and staining it. The pillars were painted diagonally from top to bottom in the colors black - red - yellow gold.
A total of 2735 (?) Pillars were set up by the frontier troops' pioneers. The column with the number 1 was on Priwall (Baltic Sea) [1], no. 2735 in the border triangle FR Germany - GDR - Czechoslovakia.
On the Gobert there are 4 border columns - with the one at the foot of the Silberklippe there are 5. These are 1332 (here in the article) 1341, 1342, 1343 (at the foot of the Silberklippe). Dei 1329 is the least known one up there

Hello everyone!
Several orchids are growing around the border post. These plants belong to the species group of the spotted fingerwort, which is considered "particularly protected" under the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BundesnatschG) and listed as "nearly endangered" on the Red List. Until they have developed their beautiful pale pink flowers, the plants can be identified by their distinctly brown-spotted leaves. These orchids are easily recognized from May to July.

It would be a shame if this population were destroyed due to ignorance. So: "Please be careful and keep your eyes open when looking at the border post!"
