Use it as a highlight or as a hint: shortly after the Hohestein in the direction of Hörne, it is about 240 m downhill about 60 meters in altitude (or uphill if you come the other way around). In any case, this is an average of about 25% incline. Very beautiful, spectacular section of the route for North Hesse. It is exhausting dry, but should not be a problem if you are sure-footed. We were there shortly after a heavy shower and it was bordering on no longer fun.

The Hohestein is a popular excursion and hiking area with a diverse landscape. The European long-distance hiking trail E6 and the 15.5 km long Hessian Switzerland premium trail lead across it. From its western spur, the Hörne (522.7 m), its southern spur, the Hohe Bahn (509.6 m), as well as from the Schöne Aussicht (approx. 520 m), there are views of the Lower Werra Valley and the northeastern Hessian uplands.

The Hohestein is 569 m above sea level. NHN the highest mountain of the Gobert.
It rises in the northeast of the Werra-Meißner district, the state border with Thuringia and thus the former inner-German border runs over its northeastern branch.
The Hohestein extends from the main ridge of the Gobert in the border area to the Thuringian Eichsfeld in a westerly direction to the Werraschleife near Hessian Kleinvach. The Mühlbach (Motzbach) flows to the south past the Hohestein and the Hainbach to the north, both of which flow into the Werra.
