The Alsdorfer Weiher animal park is located in the middle of the Broichbachtal recreation area. About 300 animals of 30 species live on an area of more than 20 ha. The entire area of the animal park and the adjoining leisure area, including the water, extends over an area of more than 30 hectares. The huge nature reserve, which is particularly suitable for relaxing walks, is not included.

The Alsdorfer Weiher animal park is part of the Broichbachtal recreation area and is located in Alsdorf in North Rhine-Westphalia. The area covers 30 hectares and has an animal population of 300 animals of 30 different species.

At the instigation of Helmut Eckert, who was Alsdorf city director from 1951 to 1975, the zoo was built in the 1960s between the district of Ofden and the federal highway 57, opened in 1967 and has been increasingly enlarged ever since. In addition, Helmut Eckert founded the Alsdorfer Tierparkverein in 1969, of which he later became an honorary member.
