St. Mary in Kahleby is a secluded church between the villages of Füsing and Schaalby. It once belonged to the monastery Guldenholm on the Langsee. Later she came to the Schleswig St. Johannis monastery. Since the last century she is independent. In the seventies, the community joined with the parish Moldenit.
Originally St. Mary's is a Romanesque church, first mentioned in 1192. As early as the 13th century, however, it was considerably enlarged and with a double Gothic ribbed vault in the choir.
A renewed reconstruction took place in 1855, from this time comes the tower in its present form, which in addition to a donated bell of the latest time also contains an old bell of the 14th century.
The eye first sees a large cross from the beginning of the 16th century, depicting the cross as a tree of life, with the symbols of the evangelists at the ends, showing how the gospel spreads in all directions.
Striking in the church is the painting from the beginning of our century, which could be preserved over several renovations.
Then the pulpit of 1673 stands out, on the basis of which one can gain a nice insight into the history of the church with the help of the donor names. For example, Pastor Rodbertus, one of the donors, fell victim to, for example, the wars of the time.
The inscription was in Low German, until the 17th century normal church language.
A special treasure of the church is the Johann-Daniel-Busch-organ of 1784, which was excellently restored ten years ago and is heard in the church services and several concerts a year.
